Tesco Finest Deep Filled Mince Pies with COURVOISIER® VS Cognac
This is another well-presented pie: having moved away from predictable cheery red packaging, Tesco have chosen instead to suggest a luxurious winter atmosphere with a rich turquoise background and a finely laid dark oak table. Whilst this isn’t an image we inherently associate with Tesco as consumers, these are their ‘finest’ mince pies and Christmas food is easily associated with luxury.
On opening the box, we find six well-dusted mince pies, with a carefully formed Christmas star decoration and crisp fluting marks at the edge. Although one may be disappointed when the inside is revealed as there is a substantial space between the pastry and the mincemeat, what is there is worth your attention. The flavour of the mincemeat certainly rivals that of the Co-op, as the Courvoisier can certainly be tasted and adds well to the blend. The pastry could be lighter, it feels more like shortbread than short crust at times, but the flavour is excellent. The weight of the pastry detracts from this pie’s texture rating, but if you get them during the half price promotion they offer excellent value for money at a mere 82.5p each.
The pie sponsor, Sarah, said “I’d always prefer a homemade pie, but these are really tasty and they definitely look the part.”
So once again we’re left as happy Frogs, with a total score of 303/440. At this rate it’ll be a tough contest!
