World Record broken (unofficially) at Purple Frog

“The most Jaffa Cakes eaten in one minute was set by Paul Wilson (UK) who managed to eat 6 at the offices of Metro Newspapers in London on 12th June 2009.”

This World Record made the news quite prominently earlier this Summer. It was an odd one this time as it coincided with a TV programme being filmed but also took the unusual route of no-one actually applying to beat the record. In fact it was a carefully organised publicity stunt to promote Jaffa Cakes and the people who attempted it were rather randomly selected by the organisers (including a couple of members of the press).

I have no idea if sales of Jaffa Cakes went up across the country but here at Purple Frog they certainly did. I am also proud to say that in controlled conditions supervised by Jon and Paul I was able to eat 7 in 60 seconds making me unofficially a World Record holder.

Viral marketing is now becoming a widely practised tool and while it isnt as easy to exploit for most companies it’s certainly an idea you should consider. I am sure McVities appreciated a bit of free worldwide publicity and maybe you can too.

(please note the Jaffa Cakes featured above are not the orange ones and as such are an abomination)

The brief was to build upon the groundwork put in by Purple Frog during the course of 2010 which began to increase consumer awareness, while implementing a new brand design aesthetic. A link to the current television advertising campaign was a mandatory element for the press campaign.
